Freeman House has ended Thorpe's six year domination of Parkview PS Athletics with an emphatic win in the House Championship event at the recently completed carnival.
On a record breaking day, contested in fine conditions at the Leeton High School Ovals, Freeman athletes produced some standout performances across both track and field events, putting the exclamation mark on their first title since 2006 by winning three of the four relays run at the conclusion of the day.
The dominance of the red house was reflected in the age championship results, Freeman securing four of the six trophies on offer, despite the efforts of Thorpe's Tess Staines who broke three long standing records on her way to the Senior Girls Championship. Staines set a new mark of 14.46 (beating Christine Makeham's 1995 run of 14.64) in the 12 Years 100m, ran a scintillating 32.18 in the Senior Girls 200m (bettering Jasmine Frazer's 32.52 set in 1998) and threw a remarkable 25.65m in the Senior Girls Discuss to eclipse Renee Naumann's previous mark, set in 2001, by 2.45m.
A huge crowd turned out to support the children on the day, with some outstanding efforts and sportsmanship evident in all events. Infants students embraced their participation events with great enthusiasm, engaging in their traditional age races before rotating through tabloid field events that featured discuss, shot put, relays, long jump and hurdles.
A full listing of all results in track and field events is available at the bottom of this story.
The Parkview PS representative team will be named early in Term 3 to contest the Leeton-Narrandera PSSA Carnival to be conducted at the LHS Ovals on Friday, August 9th.
