Parkview's Girls Soccer Team

The LNPSSA Soccer Knockout was hosted at the Parkview PS Oval last Tuesday, 15th March. Parkview's representative team acquitted itself very well and has now gone 5 years without being defeated despite not progressing to the next round of this year's competition.

Parkview was drawn to play Small Schools in the first round of the knockout and started their opening round game brightly with quick and direct ball movement setting up Molly Gilmour to score a double inside 7 minutes. Madeline Irvin extended the lead courtesy of a goal mouth scramble two minutes later before Tamika Rourke extended the hosts advantage to four in the shadows of half time.

A spirited Small Schools returned with renewed enthusiasm in the second half forcing Parkview's defensive unit led by Kuliyha-Lee Lyons and Tatum Marks to work hard, their work rewarded 6 minutes into the second half when Gilmour completed her hat trick. Tamika Rourke finished off some good lead up play from Jordyn Johnstone four minutes later before a brilliant solo effort from Makayla Connell just before full time completed a 7-0 victory for Parkview.

Round 1-Full Time

Parkview 7 (Molly Gilmour ‘4, ‘7, '21; Madeline Irvin ‘9; Tamika Rourke '13, '25; Makayla Connell '29) defeated Small Schools 0.

The final was a much tighter affair, with the evenly matched Parkview and Leeton teams providing a brilliant spectacle for spectators to enjoy. An early defensive lapse saw Leeton PS take a lead after just 2 minutes, an action that stung Parkview into action. Teha Martin led strongly in defence whilst Madison Bischard was a rock in goals for the hosts. Parkview had the better of the opportunities for the remainder of the first half but despite the efforts of Jordyn Johnstone and Tamika Rourke were unable to breach the Leeton PS defence.

Returning from the half time break and trailing 1-0, Parkview seemed to be dealing with the heat better than their opponents, Madeline Irvin firing home a volley after 21 minutes after some intelligent lead up play from Molly Gilmour to level the scores with nine minutes remaining. From there, Parkview peppered their oppositions goal but were unable to find the go ahead goal, meaning that when time was called on a thrilling match, Leeton PS were declared winners on the first goal rule.

Final-Full Time

Parkview 1 (Madeline Irvin '21) drew Leeton PS 1

Following the conclusion of the final, a 14 player squad was selected to represent LNPSSA at the Riverina Championships to be held in Albury on March 30. Of this squad, 7 Parkview students were selected. Congratulations is extended to Molly Gilmour, Madeline Irvin, Tamika Rourke, Jordyn Johnstone, Kuliyha-Lee Lyons, Tatum Marks and Madison Bischard who will compete at the Riverina Champs as LNPSSA representatives.
