The Parkview Public School community has proudly watched on as its newest crop of students graduated from their 17 week transition program at the school on Wednesday. 50 students enjoyed their final day of transition ahead of Kindergarten commencing in 2013 by sharing lunch with their families after their final transition session, and then enjoyed an offical graduation ceremony to mark the end of the highly regarded program.
Parents also engaged in a final information session linked to Kindergarten readiness and other important logistical issues relating to their children's commencement of school.
Kindergarten Transition Teachers Miss Jodie Boardman and Miss Paige Frazer were excited about the success of this year's program and are looking forward to school commencing with the new students in 2013. "It has been another outstanding transition program" Miss Boardman said. "Once again we have had great support from parents and the children have really benefited from their extended period in the Parkview environment ahead of school commencing."
Miss Frazer reflected upon her first transition experience as a really positive one. "I wasn't heavily involved in last year's program, so to spend 17 weeks with the children before they enter my classroom is a real benefit in terms of gauging student capabilities and developing a rapport with the kids. I can't wait for the new school year to commence."
Principal Travis Irvin echoed Miss Frazer's thoughts. "The real benefit of our program as opposed to others is the teachers that are teaching Kindergarten the following year actually engage with the kids, get to know them and are already establishing plans to cater for the individual needs of the children. Being such a lengthy process is also great for the kids and parents as they have the opportunity to gain familiarity with the Parkview Public School community and the layout of the school. Hopefully they will feel right at home when school commences on January 31."
