The victorious Parkview Girls AFL Team


Parkview Public School's Girls AFL Team has cut a swathe through some of the finest girls teams in NSW to claim the Southern NSW Paul Kelly Cup Girls AFL Title at Robertson Oval, Wagga Wagga on Friday.

After winning the MIA Paul Kelly Cup Title in May, the school progressed to the Southern NSW stage of the event and produced a memorable day of football to be crowned champions for the very first time.

The opening fixture of the day saw Parkview take on Wagga based Henschke Primary School. After conceding the opening goal of the game, Parkview assumed control of the match thanks to brilliant rebound from defence from Makayla Bradshaw and Kristen Bradshaw, providing plenty of possession for Shay Bandy and Jamielee White to put some scoreboard pressure on their opponents.

Leading by 15 points at half time, Parkview absorbed significant pressure from Henschke in the second half and despite remaining scoreless, held on for a vital 7 point victory.

The Semi Final featured an all public schools match up with Finley Public School. A tight first half saw Parkview go to the break with an eight point advantage thanks to Madeline Irvin's intercept and goal.

The second half was again a highly pressurised affair, Parkview benefitting from midfield dominance courtesy of Tamika Rourke and Molly Gilmour, while Makayla Connell provided a target in the forward line, helping Parkview to a 16 point victory.

The Grand Final featured a match-up between Parkview and Albury based Trinity Anglican College. Parkview burst out of the blocks and dominated possession in their forward half, built on the work of a best on ground performance in the ruck from Shaylan Protheroe and some dominant play in the midfield from Tamika Rourke, Molly Gilmour and Madeline Irvin.

Dakota Boardman, Makayla Connell and Shay Bandy were lively up forward while Jamielee White bagged two opening half goals for Parkview has they took a 24 point lead into half time.

Trinity opened the second half with renewed enthusiasm and placed Parkview under significant pressure however a stoic defensive effort led by Makayla Bradshaw, Tatum Marks, Kristen Bradshaw and Chelsea Paterson saw Parkview hold their opponents scoreless and be crowned Southern NSW Champions with a 30 point victory.
