Parkview Public School has secured its first ever LNPSSA Netball Championship with a thrilling victory over Leeton Public School at the Leeton Indoor Stadium recently. The team played brilliant netball throughout the day, commencing with a sound 36-0 victory over Small Schools in the opening fixture of the competition. Chelsea Berney-Paterson and Dakota Boardman were strong for Parkview through the mid-court while Shay Bandy took a late switch to Goal Shooter in her stride to provide a dangerous attacking option.
The final against Leeton PS was a tight affair early, with both schools exchanging goals early in the match before Parkview lifted its shooting efficiency courtesy of Molly Gilmour to take a slender 2 goal lead to half time. Parkview's strong defence led by Tamika Rourke and Tatum Marks took over the game after half time while excellence in the midcourt from Sarah Elliott and Madeline Irvin ensured a clear possession advantage for Parkview's shooters which they put to good use, winning the title 13-6 in front of large and loud crowd!
Parkview coach Merilyn Blakeman was a picture of elation at the final whistle. "I am so happy for this group of girls. They have played netball together since Year 2, so to get some success as a group is rewarding. They played brilliantly as a team and deserve their win. Credit to Leeton PS, they played some excellent netball too so the future of the game in our town is in good hands."
More good news was to come for Parkview with five students selected in the LNPSSA Representative Netball team to contest the Western Riverina Championships in Griffith this Friday, 28th April. The students are Madeline Irvin, Tamika Rourke, Molly Gilmour, Shay Bandy and Tatum Marks. We wish the girls all the best for this opportunity.
Parkview will play Coolamon Central School in the Riverina Quarter FInals of the State Knockout during Term 2.
