The 2012 edition of the popular Parkview PS Spelling Bee was held last Friday in the PPS hall. On a cold and windy day, the hall proved popular for spectators who remained during lunch to support their peers (and enjoy the hall's warmth no doubt!)

The junior section was contested by students from Years 3 & 4 who had earned their way to the final based on solid spelling results achieved in their respective classes. In a closely contested final which featured outstanding efforts from all spellers, the winners were Jayden Prest (3) and Tateum Ingram (3). A special mention to Corey Axtill and Kiana Wortley who filled in for absent students at late notice!

The senior section featured tried and tested spelling bee students who had competed since junior primary years. It was fantastic to also see some fresh faces! The first round of words proved to be no challenge with all spellers progressing to Round 2. Steadily, the field was narrowed to 3 spellers. The eventual winner was Jacob Mills (5) who spelt fatigue correctly to separate himself from Alanis Wortley (6) and Courtney Anderson (6). Both girls were required to contest another round to decide who would join Jacob as the runner up. Alanis spelt systematic correct to join Jacob as the remaining Stage 3 winner.

Jayden, Tateum, Jacob and Alanis will now progress to the Riverina Spelling Bee to be held at Griffith East Public School on Monday, September 10. All students will be given an additional package of words to study this week. Further results will be reported on after this date.
