Parkview PS hosted Leeton PS in the first round of the girls and boys NSWPSSA Soccer Knockout at the Parkview PS Oval on Monday. Two great games of soccer were witnessed by a large and appreciative crowd, with students from both schools displaying outstanding sportsmanship and skill.
In the girls fixture, Parkview got the go ahead goal after 20 minutes, with Ashleigh Cook blasting a fine strike into the top right hand corner after good lead up play from Kayla Mecham, Hannah Boardman and Chelsea Axtill.
Leading 1-0 at half time, Parkview went on the attack early in the second half, with Cook doubling their advantage after 33 minutes with another brilliant strike, this time from the edge of the box. Parkview had chances to go three ahead, however were caught out on the counter attack, with Sophie Eaton's brilliant solo effort putting Leeton back in the game with 8 minutes remaining.
A tense final period, in which Samantha Pianca's defending was a feature, was finally ended with Parkview holding on grimly to win the game 2-1 and progress to a second round meeting with Ashmont PS in Wagga Wagga later this term.

In the boys fixture, a very well drilled Leeton PS proved too strong for a determined Parkview PS outfit, winning 10-0. Leeton moved the ball clinically and created numerous scoring opportunities, heading to the half time break with a four goal advantage.
The second half was more of the same, with a tight knit defence led by Simon Barnhill and Adrian Trifogli laying the platform for another Leeton blitz, the final score a resounding 10-0 victory to the visitors.
Robbie Rimmer, Isaac Collins and Jacob Sharp all netted hat tricks, while Lane Smith landed a brace in what was an entertaining attacking formation. Parkview were well served by captain Tory Amato in the midfield and defenders Ziggie Vincent and Daniel Riznic, but had no answer to some well constructed goals from their opponents.
Leeton move on to Round 2 of the State Knockout to be contested in Griffith later this month.
